At Mt. Nittany Winery you will enjoy complimentary wine tasting from a selection of over 25 different wines. We enjoy sharing our wine range of wine styles with you and helping guide you when it comes to wine and food pairings.

We also like to make suggestions about alternate uses of wine. The enjoyment of wine is not limited to its use as a stand-alone beverage! Wine can also be used as an ingredient for a large number of delicious recipes. In fact, professional chefs make use of high quality wine in lots of dishes.

When it comes to dessert, we often recommended pouring a little of our fruit wines over ice cream. So, what about wine in your ice cream? What follows is a fun summertime ice cream recipe that is fast and easy to make.

Wine Flavored Ice Cream (6-8 Servings)

Luckily, you don’t need years of cooking experience to make this refreshing ice cream from the comfort of your home. You don’t even need an ice cream maker. All you need is a few common kitchen utensils and ingredients you can find online or at your local grocery store.

Both red and white wines that have a sweet, fruity flavor work well in this recipe. Some excellent choices include our Blueberry and Raspberry wines. Since the ingredients should be as cool as possible, you want to use chilled wine. You can either let the wine bottle cool down in an ice bucket for a little while or grab one straight from your chiller if you have one.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chilled wine (see recommendations above)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons powdered milk
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups pureed berries (blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, etc.)
  • 2 cups cold heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation:

In a bowl, thoroughly mix the first five ingredients until the sugar, cornstarch, powdered milk and salt are dissolved into the wine.

In a separate bowl, beat the whipping cream until it forms stiff peaks. Add the wine mixture, pureed berries and vanilla extract and further combine all of the ingredients for a minute or so.

Pour mixture into a freezer-safe container and, using a spatula, even out the top. Place it in your freezer overnight. The following morning your wine flavored ice cream will be ready to enjoy – or you can wait and have it after dinner!
